Every flying day at Brasschaatse Zweefvliegclub starts with a briefing. Before the first launch, the duty instructor (DDI) runs through the whole day: the weather, the state of the airspace, any NOTAMs, which aircraft are serviceable, and who's flying that day — students, trial flights, cross-country pilots. It used to mean putting a Google Slides deck together by hand every morning, with each piece of information coming from a different website, under time pressure. A lot of repetition, and exactly
the kind of work where something easily gets missed — and a briefing running on yesterday's weather or with a forgotten NOTAM is no small thing. I'm a glider pilot and instructor at the club myself as well as a developer, so this was a problem I had firsthand.
The BZC Briefing Generator turns that morning chore into a few minutes of review. The instructor steps through a simple wizard in which all the data has already been pulled automatically from the sources the club uses: member list, fleet and registrations, the weather, NOTAMs, the soaring forecast, and the status of the airspace. They check each step, untick anything that isn't relevant, add any notes, and click generate. A few seconds later a finished briefing is waiting in the club's Drive folder.
Outcome
The generator replaces a cumbersome morning routine of scattered open tabs with one clear flow. All the information that used to be spread across different sites now sits on a single screen, the briefing is complete and consistent every time, and it's archived to Drive automatically. That takes away the risk of forgetting to check something in the morning. I built the tool for my own duty days first, set up so it can later be rolled out to the other DDIs at the club.
